Environmental Conservation

Concern about the environment is common to all communities to allow future generations to live in safe, healthy and environmentally stable surroundings.

Urban Forest Project

In this multi-layered approach, the plantation includes a sub-tree layer, followed by a tree layer and a canopy layer to create a quasi-natural ecosystem. With the use of this Japanese technique, the aim is to improve the air quality in the area and support the growth of biodiversity through the introduction of species of insects, fungi, moss, mammals and plants. The urban forest also enhances the area’s recreational amenities and provides urban green spaces for the citizens. Benefits of this project include protection against soil erosion and floods as well as an increase in the water table of the region.

Urban Forest Project is by planting more varieties of native species from the Western Ghats which includes different plant groups – deciduous, evergreen and perennial plants – were selected to develop an urban green space into a micro forest.

Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Learning – Experiential Science Learning Explore, Play And Learn (EPL)

In the wake of the health risk posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, a blended learning model will be facilitated. Our implementation partner, a foundation, was quick to adapt to the situation at hand and transformation to outreach from a physical mode of instruction to online education to minimize the health risks without compromising student learning.

The EPL program is a digital e-learning platform to cater to the needs of students in rural areas and enhance their self-learning and exploration skills. With the principle of accessibility in mind, this program encouraged students to learn and explore through household materials and real-life scenarios.

Upon reopening of schools, a Mobile Science Unit, equipped with more than 100 science models, provided hands-on face-to-face learning opportunities to the students in small batches with necessary protective measures in place.

This initiative benefits students in government schools by providing virtual and face-to-face interactions. In addition, virtual training programs were to be conducted for the teachers to refresh their teaching methods and shift to a more child-centric approach, thus enhancing positive behavioral change in young students.
